Hot rod culture, the bedrock on which our scene was built. We owe a great debt to those that came before and tuned their cars for thrills and spills on the street, drag strips or salt flats.  What is amazing about hot rod culture is that whilst we've moved far beyond the original it has still remained a strong scene in and of itself, nearly seventy years on.

The Wankel Rotary engine is a controversial subject. To some it is one of the finest pieces of automotive engineering ever, others say its weak and over complicated while some just laugh at the name Wankel. Racing cars, twisty roads and Mediterranean sunshine, what a brilliant recipe, one that can be found on the Rally of Mallorca which we covered last year, and we will be covering again this year.  It isn't the only island based rally to happen in the med, given that a number of families are planning their holidays at this time of year we thought it might be worth suggesting you head to Corsica in October, there isn't really a need to tell your nearest and dearest that there is a historic rally on...

Trends 2010

Well 2010 has started and it is about time we put on our wizards hats and attempted to predict the future.  Consider this half wish list, half observation, with a pinch of idea and a dash of asking around.  Without further ado, Retro Scene Mag's trend predicitions for 2010 are as follows

We've been pretty quiet recently, a combination of winter and great upheavel at RSM towers, we have found time to sort out a nice Facebook Group which you can join and keep up to date with our posts.  With the Grand National Roadster show coming up this month and our annual (occasionally controversial) trends posts on their way there is plenty more to come in January.  In the mean time have a look through this great set of videos about Graham Hill, as shown earlier this year on BBC Four.

We've had Andy Ruffell and Bob Haro mentioned here before so I guess you've probably guessed we're into our old school BMX here on RSM. Right now we're heading towards the launch of a sister site where we can indulge our musical, extreme sporting, style and love of generally cool stuff without diluting the feed of car stuff here on RSM. Until then though I'll post some stuff that we've stumbled across whilst we're putting it together

This is Woody Itson, a California-based BMXer from back in the day who seemed to share an affinity for motorised transport just like us:

Years ago I bought a Fast Car Magazine with CDRom on the front as a free gift. That CDRom contained images of cars and wheels and allowed you to combine the two via your computer. That, I suppose, was my first experience of the computer-based modifying that has become known as the Continue Reading......
