Japanese low down car video explosion!

by HoTWire 17. May 2010 05:37

So we have a big old list of awesome that we keep close to our chest, sometimes though we hit a run of cool stuff and can't keep these things back and spread them across a number of entries.  Oh now, sometimes we have a great collection of stuff that works so well together that it deserves its own entry.  All these videos come from the land of the rising sun, they are all great.

I love it when people have video'd people arriving or leaving a show, it gives you a real impression of being there, almost a behind the scenes feel to it.  So this is one minutes forty seconds of happy for me :

Bosozoku and Shakotan cars hooning around on a wet track, yes please:

Add the last two videos together and remove the rain:

Finally let us finish with some good old fashioned Bosozoku lunacy, love that exhaust(s) note.

Hope you enjoyed the video selection, we'll go back to hording all our links and letting them out gradually...

RSM : Linklog 011209

by HoTWire 1. December 2009 03:21

We've made it to December.  As the UK spirals into winter our output on the blog slows down a bit, we'll still be bringing you cool stuff to check out every week, probably not at such a pace as we manage over summer.  Of course life goes on in the Retro Scene, cars are being built, the Southern Hemisphere heads into summer, and there are still cars out there to be discovered by us.  In the mean time, some links to keep you busy.

RSM : Linklog 070809

Quiet week from us this week, where we'd usually have an update on a Wednesday we spent some time behind the scenes getting a software upgrade ready, the result of which is mostly invisible to you guys and gals, unless we broke something.  We'll have some more upgrades and gentle improvements to the site coming over the next few weeks.

Lets get on to what we're all here for, the linklog, we've built up another glut of first class links over the past few weeks so get yourself a drink and be ready to spend the next few hours clicking around the net.

Wow things have really started to pick up pace around here, we have a lot to cover over the next few weeks, so much so that we're having to cut out some of the things we'd have liked to cover in depth.  Instead of denying you the joy that these features might have bought this linklog will act as a condensed form.  Strap yourself in, this is going to be a whistle stop tour of awesomeness.

First up with have this excellent Flickr account, populated with former Eastern Bloc cars, Wartburg, Barkas, Trabants and the like.  There are some incredibly cool cult classics in the collection, well worth spending your time checking through all the events.

We've previously covered how great the Beardmore brothers are, well now is your chance to own a slice of their genius, John's Fiat powered Minor is for sale on ebay.  At the time of writing it has three days to go, maybe I'll have to stick a sneaky bid on, you never know it might just work.  The car is fantastically fabricated by one of the best builders in the UK, so whatever the price someone will be getting a unique, well screwed together car.

Earlier in the year we predicted Pro-Touring on non-US cars would be one of the trends this year, thinking the Europeans would take on the style for more of their rides.  Whilst this has been happening in part, it is even more interesting that the American's themselves have been applying the style to non-US cars, whilst these handful are still projects they are worth keeping an eye on.  First up is a Chevette with turbocharged Ecotec engine, secondly is this Beetle which is already heavily modified, but has a photoshop of the planned final look.  Lastly we have a Datsun pickup getting the treatment.

Finally this one doesn't have a huge amount of information, so I'll give you the link and let you run with it, Blog dos Carros Antigos is a Brazilian blog that appears to consist of period car photographs, well worth your time.

Oh yeah, a video is needed.. Check out these lunatics hillclimbing F3000 cars on closed road hillclimbs:

Keep with us through the month, we've got some cool updates for you...

RSM : Linklog 120609

by HoTWire 12. June 2009 04:08
It is about time we hit you all up with another Linklog, so here it is.

Let us start off with some "Atlanta, Shenanigans, automotives, and old schoolery" from Puregroove.org.  These folks are out there enjoying their rides and turning up some cool ones whilst they do it.  Expect a bunch of photographs of work in progress, interesting stuff they find on the next and some just plain cool posts.  Their leanings are certainly towards all things Japanese, but spread through the blog is a selection of fine automotives and photographs of all sorts, well worth adding to your bookmarks.

Keeping it on the other side of the pond we've got the home of Mike Burroughs, whose BMW we've featured before, the excellent StanceWorks site has a range of more modern, but well stanced (obviously) cars on it, some outstanding photography and event reports as well as a newly opened forum.  Plenty of inspiration to be found amoung the pages contained within.

We found this next website whilst tracking down information for our entry on Troy Trepanier's new car, and it was quite a find.  V8TVShow.com has a great mix of videos, from car features to technical how to's the side offers a lot to keep you interested and educated.  Particularly if you like cars with a V8 in them.  There are also some great project videos where you can really see a car come together and then get out on the strip, track or street.

Seeing as we seem to be spending our entire time this linklog on American based sites, I'll add this one in too.  TMCarPhoto is, as the name would imply, a car photography site, mainly dealing with Goodguy's Columbus, Detroit Autorama and Auburn shows the photography is very nicely done and there is a lot of it to look through, so it should keep you busy for a while.

To round things off in a traditional way we need a video, so we'll have a slice of life in San Jose, California, some very cool Bombs

Linklog: Shakotan Bosozoku Youtube Special! (Oh, and a Marina Van!)

by rmad 19. May 2009 06:05

Oh dear! The 'boss' is away and we're useless without him...with no-one to crack the whip, the usually-reliable RSM team gets all lethargic and no use to anyone and it's you, our loyal readership that suffers. It's Tuesday and we've not fed you any tasty retro related motoring morsels yet. Hopefully this batch of splendid Japanese classic car videos we've discovered on The 'Tube will go some way to apologise for our unforgivable lack of effort.

Video Number One: The awesomely titled 'Funny Case : No Suspension Cars'. I want to get a sticker made saying that to put on my back window!

Video Number Two:  Japanease Old School Street Racers. 37 seconds of low-flying goodness...you can even forgive the bizarre spelling of the word Japanese!

Video Number Three: '1994' Ten years too late for a George Orwell reference I'm afraid so I'll just tell you how much I like that black GC110 Skyline...I like it a lot.

Video Number Four:   コロナ 吸いこみ?is the title which means 'Acting silly with cool cars near the beach'...actually that's a lie but my translation reckons the title is actually 'Corona Sucking?' and I didn't want to put that because I quite like Coronas and my Mum always told me that if you haven't got anything good to say, don't say anything. Wise words Mum, thank you.

How do you follow that? Easy...with a short clip of an overpowered Marina Van caught on film whilst parking at The Ace Cafe recently. Two things are worth mentioning: 1. It's so loud that it woke my cat up even though I'm listening with headphones and 2. You'll be worried that he's going to go through the window...an understandable fear but it's OK, he doesn't.

  Phew!

The Race - Automotive Comic

by HoTWire 11. May 2009 03:35

The web is full of comics, catering to all sorts of interests, however there seems to be few western comics related to cars.  So it has been nice to see Nick from grantgb.com try out a photography/comic experiment with The Race - A Seven Part Automotive Comic Adventure.

You can see the full seven parts here : http://www.flickr.com/photos/grantgb/sets/72157616896580885/

The Dialogue is taken from various car movies and there is a prize draw for those that can name all the movies.  It is also worth knowing that you can buy prints of the entire series here

Whilst we're on the subject, make sure you check out the grantgb website and the associated Flickr stream.  Some great car photography is on display, and we do love great car photography.
