The South Australian All Japan Day is only in its third year but has already created a reputation both for the cars in attendance and the 'attitude' of the show as a whole.

Built on the mantra "No DJs, No prizes, No trophies, No sound-offs, No dyno runs, No promo girls, No smoke machines, No roped-off displays, No Fuss" this event is free, open and all about the cars.

With the age of the internet the concept of show seasons has kind of faded a little, whilst we may not be able to head out through the wind and rain to any big shows in our own country we can live vicariously through others via the internet.  We've covered the New Years Meet in Japan before, but this year it seems there is much more online for it and quicker than in previous years.

Whilst we are asleep under a blanket of snow and cloud, Australia and New Zealand are enjoying their summer time.  Of course summer means a lot of different things to a lot of different people, to us here at RSM it means Car Shows!  Using the power of the internets we can enjoy the thrills and spills of shows thousands of miles away with just the click of a mouse.  The question is, what do you look for?  Well we found a real live Australian and asked him, this is what he said.

Well that was a pleasant hiatus, hope you all didn't miss us too much and are looking forward to the new year as much as we are.

We started the new year with our regular trip to the BuySellCortina meet, which you can find pictures of in our Flickr gallery.  It is always pleasing to see how many people will brave the cold and occasionally treacherous conditions for New Years day and Boxing day meets.  A nice mid winter boost to keep you going before we hit show season proper.

The 2009 Classic car show boasts 220 car and motorbike clubs, over 1,400 cars and live showcases, restoration demonstrations and an autojumble. This naturally makes it one of the highest attended classic car shows in Europe. Despite the recession and  the windy weather the first day was very busy.

Well SEMA has come and gone, the web is flooded with cool cars old and new once again.  Rather than just point you at some galleries we thought we'd pick out some choice morsels that tickled our particular fancy.  In no particular order :

erm...

Okay I don't know the base car, I should, I REALLY should... but I don't.  So I'm just going to say that I love this teched out roadster, a very  modern take on a build of a classic shape.

A few years ago the Japanese Classic Car Show had that 'local' look to it, which is no bad thing but as the years progress, the standard gets higher and higher and the rides keep getting better and better. The shots I've found this year are all saying the same thing - this show has grown to become THE place to see cool J tin. A few years ago would you have thought to go anywhere other than Japan to see the sort of cars we're seeing now at JCCS? I'll answer that for you: No.

The show season in the UK is gradually heading towards a close, but we try and pack in as much as we can here in the UK, this weekend just gone being no exception.  We get to see two sides of the VW scene with this weekends shows, Edition 38 being one of the premiere show and shine events in the water cooled calendar, VW Action being a great fun aircooled weekender with drag action at Santa Pod.

Retro Scene Magazine tends to cater for the retro car enthusiast but it's well worth the retrophile taking a frequent look outside their scene for a change and possibly inspiration elsewhere. The car group often considered the closest (and sometimes with blurred lines separating them) is classic cars.

Once a year I go to a car show and don't even really go through the gate.  I don't see a single club stand line up, I don't really get to have a look around any of the cars, I get tired (very), thirsty (very), hungry and a little sunburnt.  I do this because I love cars and I've found some other people that love cars enough to do this alongside me.  In doing this we make sure that a large group of people who also love cars can get together, talk about and enjoy their cars.  They can take them on the track, or the rolling road.  They can park alongside friends and celebrate the diversity of their hobby.  They can check out a museum together, see some unique vehicles and some history.  They can bond and form a stronger community around the cars.  They can support the traders that have come to the show and ensure the financial future of our hobby.
