The nature of the internet now days means that information can pass from one place to another at lightning speed, someone posts something in a forum, it gets reposted in a blog, which then gets spread to other forums, so on and so forth.  Sometimes though important information is missing, particularly when the original posting was just a bunch of cool pictures.

Over the past couple of days pictures of this 1988 Volvo 740 have been making their way through the usual communication channels, sadly it is only pictures that have been making their way around, so beyond stylistic comments about the wheels and overall look of the car, little else has been posted.  This is where Retro Scene Mag come in, we like to delve a little deeper into the mystery internet cars that occasionally do the rounds.  We've track down some information about this car and we do like to share.

First up lets get a look in the engine bay.

That right there is a Volvo B230FT Block being fed air from a Holset HX40 Turbo.  Hot cams, intercooler and mapped ignition keep it all running well, with an output of 350bhp, through the back wheels.  Whilst not the wildest bhp we've seen from Scandinavia it is more than adequate to push the 1230Kg weight of the car around nicely.  All of which is planted nicely on the ground with a set of adjustable shocks, vented brakes and those 17" wide steel wheels.

Inside there isn't much, well not much that came from the original Volvo production line at least.  Seats are carbon fibre, with four point harnesses keeping the driver in place, there are some extra dials to keep an eye on that hot engine, and of course that roll cage adding safety and stiffness.

Outside hasn't been left untouched either, a complete 940 Front end has been added, with subtle modifications to the indicators, all of the locks have been smoothed, with just the rear handles removed from the doors.

This car obviously gets used hard, which is great to see, rumour has it that it may be for sale soon as well, so keep your eyes peeled.
